CFF Mission
Call For Fire (CFF) is a concise, standardized message prepared by an observer to request fire. Its fundamental purpose is to provide the Fire Direction Center (FDC) with all the necessary information to determine how to attack a target. This system enables artillery and mortars to rapidly deliver rounds on target.
🔴Radio Transmissions
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Observer Identification: This element informs the FDC who is calling for fire and clears the net for the mission.
Warning Order: This specifies the type of mission (e.g., adjust fire, fire for effect, suppression, immediate suppression) and the method of target location.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Target Location: This element provides the FDC with the target's coordinates, typically using the grid method (six-digit for standard, eight-digit for registration points or greater accuracy), polar plot, or shift from a known point. For a grid mission, the Observer-Target (OT) direction is usually sent at the end of the CFF or just before the initial correction, as it's not needed by the FDC to locate the target.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Target Description: This includes details about the target, such as its nature (e.g., infantry platoon in the open, sagger missile cluster), size, and attitude.
Method of Engagement: This describes how the FO wants the target attacked, including options like "Danger close" (if friendly troops are within a specified distance of impact, e.g., 600 meters for mortar/artillery rounds) and ammunition type.
Method of Fire and Control: This element indicates the desired manner of attacking the target and whether the observer wants to control the timing of fire delivery.
